COLOR KWA FACE CAMPAIGN

Children living with albinism are more susceptible to skin cancer as the suns ultra-violet rays penetrate through their skin. Hence for people living with albinism, sunscreen lotions are a matter of life and death. Sadly, however, not all Persons living with albinism are as lucky, which is why Nonini is motivated to help lobby their cause through his music and Colour kwa Face Campaign.

Albinism is a condition characterised by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes due to absence or defect of an enzyme involved in the production of melanin. Thus, the most critical care of people living with albinism is to protect their skin against direct sunlight. Thus, during the day, they have to wear hats, sunglasses and, most importantly, apply sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF).

Unfortunately, these sunscreens are expensive and way out of the reach of many Kenyans. The other day i was surprised that Sunscreen lotions with an SPF of 30-50 cost as much as 1000Kshs which is roughly 10$ the government and Manufacturing companies should take action because this prices are way out of the reach of ordinary Kenyans especially those living upcountry au mashinani.

Under The COLOR KWA FACE campaign which exists to promote, via advocacy and education, the well being of albino persons often marginalized and misunderstood we are collecting Sunscreen lotion to supply to those Albinos who are unable to meet the cost of this lotion that would otherwise assist them in their day to day lives.

People with albinism should use sunscreens labeled SPF of 20 to 30. “SPF” means “sun protection factor.” This number comes from a standard test in a laboratory. The test measures the time it takes people wearing a standard amount of sunscreen to sunburn under a standard ultraviolet lamp, compared to the time with no sunscreen.

All those shipping the Sunscreen lotion please make sure it is wrapped in a plastic seal.

You can send your Sunscreen lotion to the following address:

Hello…. This is a very noble campaign that i believe most of us would love to contribute to. How about creating an online portal for us to make donations to. Buying the sunscreen in bulk is way affordable than buying per bottle. My views. Kudos!!!!!!

    • Genge Godfather 21 January 2012 at 8:55 pm #

HI EVA….IF I MAY ASK ARE U OUT OF THE COUNTRY? IF YES THEN ITS EASY TO JUST BUY THE LOTIONS AND SEND THEM TO ME VIA POST BUT WE ARE WORKING ON GETTING GIFT VOUCHERS FROM SUPERMARKETS. THE REASON WE HAVENT SET UP A PORTAL IS BECAUSE WE DONT WANNA DEAL WITH MONEY…HOPE I HAVE HELPED!
